New Barista Bar & Function Halls to Open Despite Opposition
Pearson Planning, Chartered Surveyors has obtained permission to reopen the former Royal British Legion Club, in Whitburn, as licensed premises. Labour Party Councillors originally voted to refuse planning permission on the basis of unacceptable residential impact. A number of adjacent properties are Council homes.
However, Scottish Ministers allowed the appeal made by Pearson Planning, Chartered Surveyors, on behalf of Warrington Property. The Appointed Person agreed that there was no evidence to suggest that reopening part of the Club as a public house, rather than members bar, would be any different.
Councillors had set aside evidence from the Police and their own Environmental Health Manager, when taking the decision. Although an Award of Expenses wasn’t made, Councillors are required to have genuine reasons for refusing planning applications.
The Whitburn Club closed due to falling patronage, partially blamed on the 2006 prohibition of smoking in enclosed places. If you are having difficulties obtaining consents to open/operate commercial leisure premises, then why not speak to Pearson Planning, Chartered Surveyors?
