Extraction of Peat Permitted Until 2024
Pearson Planning, Chartered Surveyors has obtained planning permission allowing peat extraction on Nutberry Moss until the end of 2024. Councillors at Dumfries & Galloway Council did not discuss the proposal, agreeing without a vote, at Committee last month. The Moss supports jobs in the adjacent factory, including indirect employment in haulage contractors. There are regular campaigns by ill-informed eco-warriors to have peat extraction curtailed. Peat is extracted principally for commercial horticulture, including food production. Grow Your Own initiatives are being promoted, and there is a clear conflict between that positive stance and the objectives of the radical-left.
