Extraction of Peat To Continue Until 2022 in Lancashire
Twenty months of discussion and negotiation has resulted in Salford City Council agreeing that peat extraction can continue on Little Woolden Moss until 2022. Pearson Planning, Chartered Surveyors applied for the periodic review of its client’s planning permission, as required by the Environment Act. Pearson Planning contested the Council’s original view that continued extraction had the potential to significantly damage the environment. Planning Consultants to the Council gave the opinion that Environmental Impact Assessment was required. EIA is an expensive process [EU research suggests an average cost of €62,000]. Salford City Council finally accepted that EIA wasn’t required.
There was concern that Salford City Council would revoke the original planning permission and halt extraction. It didn’t.
If your mineral business requires to undertake the ROMP process, for any site in the UK, then Pearson Planning can help.
